Go Green! Regatta and Riverwalk Festival
Saturday, May
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Spring Street Trailhead
Come and join us on the Trail for a day full of music, food, children’s activities, and a green boat race you will not want to miss! We will also highlight a marketplace of environmentally friendly and energy saving information, including Youman’s Chevrolet hybrid cars, City Market on the Green vendors, and on-site recycling program, Knowing Your Natives educational tour, and children’s activities, including a book giveaway highlighting servant leadership and taking care of the River. Proceeds from food sales and boat entries will go to Friends of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail – helping to raise awareness and preserve one of Middle Georgia’s most treasured assets – the Ocmulgee River and Heritage Trail.
This is a FREE community event. Parking will not be available at Spring Street. Those that wish to get a little exercise can park at Central City Park, Glenridge Drive, or along Riverside Drive and walk onto the Trail to enjoy the festivities. There will also be trolley shuttles every 15 minutes, making a loop between the Spring Street Trailhead, Central City Park, and the Macon Centreplex.
Regatta Entry Categories:
1)Best Use of Recycled Materials:
Whatever floats your boat will be needed to carry crafts made of recyclable materials down the Ocmulgee River. Participants are asked to utilize only materials that they have recycled to construct a craft that will make it down the River from Amerson Water Works Park to the Spring Street ramp. Judging will take place as the craft passes the judging platform along the River and during an inspection of the craft as it is displayed at the Spring Street ramp area. Small motors will be allowed in this category. This race has a $50 entry fee.
Awards: The craft with the most creative use of recyclable materials will receive a prize. The craft that has the most recyclable materials on board at Spring Street will also receive a prize.
2)Best Use of Green Energy:
This category is to encourage the creative use of alternative sources of energy. There will be no gas or battery powered motors allowed in this category, but craft must utilize alternate energy sources – solar energy, wind, manual powered, etc. This race has a $50 entry fee.
Awards: The craft with the most creative use of alternate energy will receive a prize. The craft with the most operating equipment will also receive a prize.
3)Boat Float:
The boat float category is for all types of water worthy craft. All participants are encouraged to gather trash and recyclable materials into their craft as they float along the River. No motors are allowed in this category. This race has a $30 entry fee.
Awards: The craft that has the most trash will receive a prize. The craft with the most recyclable materials on board will also receive a prize.
The Regatta will begin at the canoe launch at Amerson Water Works Park. Due to the limitations imposed by launching from a small ramp area, there will be no race to the finish – the boats must finish at the Spring Street ramp to be eligible for prizes. All boats must be of a size to be launched from this ramp area.
Entry into the Boat Float is $30 (includes one t-shirt). Entry into the Best Use of Recycled Materials and Best Use of Alternative Energy categories is $50 (includes two t-shirts). Individuals and groups are welcome.
Watch this site for more information and register for the Regatta! You can also pay your entry fees online.
